CUT UPS

Everything I did to approximate the site (and therefore) the subjects as an environmental, psychological, emotional and social reality, was based on fictioning through a form of survey derived from the process of collage.  I edited many different sources to create a narrative that would help me prepare for the journey and in anticipation of the experience, perhaps as a substitute for what might not take place.  My original research method used collage/montage in an interdisciplinary form and sought to gain an approximation of the psychological reality of the subject from a distance through practice.

The use of collage as a methodology came from marking books with useful quotations, then from an admission to myself that I could destroy the books and repurpose them to create new narratives.  This way I could burn through the untouched books on my shelf and create something of value – draw out the knowledge physically, again as an act of excavation. In time, I also tore apart the books that had the greatest influence on my research and work, their vandalism being a form of love.
